Koleka Putuma: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised; It Will Be Live-Streamed

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised; It Will Be Live-Streamed is a multimedia performance that explores language (and languaging) used to restrict or obstruct the freedom of expression and information. The performance considers our collective dance with sincere and performed apologies, self-censorship, surveillance, protest, and technology in our everyday lives. The performance explores the potential and limitations of dialogue (or dialogue-making) in our contemporary world through text, space, visual, and sound design. The performer is positioned in the middle of the audience, towering over them. They take on the role of a big brother; he sees everything but cannot be seen, although the audience is aware of his presence. Visual Design by Inka Kendzia, Sound Design by Denise Onen. The performance is followed by a talk with the artist.

Koleka Putuma

Die preisgekrönte Dramatikerin und Spoken-Word-Künstlerin Koleka Putuma (*1993 in Port Elizabeth) eroberte im Sturm die südafrikanische Literaturwelt mit ihrem Lyrik-Debüt Collective Amnesia, das 2017 zum City Press Book of the Year ernannt wurde. 2016 erhielt sie den PEN South Africa Student Writing Prize, 2017 den Rising Star Award bei den Mbokodo Awards und 2018 wurde sie vom Forbes Magazin in die Liste der 30 vielversprechendsten afrikanischen Kreativen unter 30 aufgenommen. Koleka Putuma lebt derzeit in Kapstadt. Sie gilt als eine der aufsehenerregendsten Vertreterinnen der jungen südafrikanischen Literatur.

Senam Okudzeto

Dr. Senam Okudzeto is a British-American artist of U.S and Ghanaian parentage. Her work incorporates art practice, writing and scholarly research in responses to previously overlooked socio-economic and political histories within a discourse on feminism, African modernity and a general analysis of material culture. She was the 2018–2019 Visiting Professor at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC) and is the Founder and Director of the NGO Art in Social Structures (AiSS), an experimental platform for education in the Arts. Okudzeto has a PhD in Cultural Studies from Birkbeck College, London University, as well as an MFA (Painting), Royal College of Art London, and BA (Painting) from Slade School of Fine Art, London University and completed the Whitney Museum ISP. She has held a Fellowship at The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, Harvard University, The Edith Bloom/Jesse Howard Jr. Rome Prize Fellowship in Visual Arts at the American Academy in Rome and is the winner of the 2023 Paul Boesch Art Prize.
