Bookended by September the 11th, 2001 and the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, 2000s were a transitional decade in which the old analogue world morphed fully into the new digital era, and with this change came the total triumph of neoliberal capitalism. On a journey through two bodies of works that emerged out of this moment - Laura Grace Ford's Savage Messiah and Johny Pitts' Afropean: Notes From Black Europe - both artists will explore the ghosts of the 20th Century that lingered on. The discussion will focus on their shared interests in psychogeography and hauntology, in an attempt to mine a hidden index of history, explore alternative futures, interrogate nostalgia for the late 20th century and the feeling of a generation who, in Laura Grace Ford's words were «Always Yearning for the Time That Just Eluded Us».
